19 SEPTEMBER 2012 (Toronto, ON)—Critically acclaimed hip-hop MC/singer/songwriter and activist, K’NAAN, has announced his highly anticipated third album, Country, God or The Girl, will be released October 16 through A&M/Octone/Universal Music Canada. The album follows the release of 2009’s gold-certified Troubadour and features a diverse collaboration with some of music’s biggest talents—Bono, Nas, Keith Richards, and Will.i.Am. Included on the album is the platinum-certified single “Is Anybody Out There”, featuring Nelly Furtado, and his current gold-certified-and-climbing “Hurt Me Tomorrow”. Country, God or The Girl delivers not only the diverse sound that fans have come to expect but also ventures deeper musically into pop, soul and reggae. K’NAAN continues his tradition of evocative, thought-provoking lyrics on this album, tapping themes of independence, positivity and fighting loneliness and social pressure. The upcoming album proves to be dynamic, highlighting the expansive sonic direction K’NAAN has explored writing and recording over the last year. With his unique perspective on hip-hop and as a devoted activist for his home-country of Somalia, K’NAAN is the true essence of a modern day artist. His trail-blazing albums, Dusty Foot Philosopher (2005) and Troubadour (2009), as well as this year’s More Beautiful Than Silence EP have all made a distinctive and powerful impression on the music world. The multi-platinum single “Wavin’ Flag” became a true global phenomenon, reaching #1 in over 18 countries and earning K’NAAN his fourth JUNO award at home for Single of the Year.knaanmusic.com
