23 FEBRUARY 2024 (TORONTO, ON) — Today, Decca Records/Universal Music Canada release the soundtrack for the outrageously funny and deliciously sweary comedy mystery Wicked Little Letters, featuring Academy Award® winner Olivia Colman and Academy Award® nominee Jessie Buckley.
Isobel Waller-Bridge is the force behind this soundtrack, a composer at the forefront of a new wave of emerging artists in film, television and theatre. Isobel has scored a multitude of feature films, including Munich: The Edge of War (Netflix), The Phantom of the Open (BBC Films), Emma. (Focus Features / Working Title), I Came By (Netflix), BAFTA & Oscar-winning short The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse (Bad Robot/NoneMore Productions) and The Lesson (Bleecker Street and Focus Features). TV credits include Fleabag (BBC/Amazon), Black Mirror (Netflix), Roar (Apple), and The Way Down (HBO).
Lauded for her trademark electronic sound worlds and scoring sweeping melodies for large-scale orchestras, Isobel Waller-Bridge now brings this absurdly true story to life with Wicked Little Letters. Today sees the release of Rose Runs, the snappy, anticipation-filled first single from the 20-track album.
On the soundtrack, Isobel Waller-Bridge said: “The experience of scoring ‘Wicked Little Letters’ was as raucous, sensitive and delightful as the film is itself. Working with Thea Sharrock was an honour. I loved being a part of the telling of this story.”
A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a dark and absurd scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger-than-fiction true story, Wicked Little Letters follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues.
However, as the town’s women - led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) - begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit after all.
StudioCanal and Film4 presents Wicked Little Letters, directed by Thea Sharrock (Call The Midwife) and written by Jonny Sweet (The Inbetweeners) and starring Academy Award® winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Academy Award® nominee Jessie Buckley (Fargo), Timothy Spall (the Harry Potter series), Hugh Skinner (Les Misėrables), Jason Watkins (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason), Anjana Vasan (Killing Eve), and Gemma Jones (Rocketman).
Wicked Little Letters From The Official Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released digitally on Friday 23rd February 2024, via Decca Records/Universal Music Canada. The film will be released in cinemas across the UK on the same date.
