20 JUNE 2017 (Toronto, ON) — Los Angeles based duo Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton, together known as Electric Guest, have released their latest single, “Oh Devil (Radio Version)” featuring Devin Di Dakta.
“On the original version of ‘Oh Devil’ the chorus had some inaudible mumbling that I had sung as a joke,” frontman Asa Taccone explains. “We tweaked it out and made it sound like a sample but we always wanted it to be clearer. We saw Devin Di Dakta on this Jamaican TV show called Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall and loved his stuff so we wrote lyrics to the mumbling and sent it to him. He recorded it in Jamaica and we flipped when we heard it."
The group’s long-awaited sophomore album Plural, released in February, displays Electric Guest's off-kilter blend of electronic, pop and R&B. Written during a period of self-reflection, Plural embraces strong, natural vocals, intuitive musical instinct and unbridled inspiration. The result is a sonic mélange layering everything from ‘80s synths to iPhone drum machines to Caribbean percussion.
After wrapping up a successful tour with Portugal The Man, Electric Guest will kick off their second headlining tour of the year with their first ever dates in Canada. The band will play Toronto and Montréal this September. Tickets will go on sale Friday, June 23 at 10AM local time.
